You may have seen my sarcastic twitter persona @CoKaneFriendly, now meet the other side: A Rumi quoting, spring sappling hugging, paintbrush pushing life enthusiast.

“Black and Gold”
Oils
braiding my thoughts back in intricate knots
just to keep them off of my face
He had to be reminded
he was doing himself a favor
as he sat there
one by one
killing his hopes.
It felt wrong,
murdering those
he hardly knew.
Today’s skull was a timed sketch. 20 min, with added skin.
In my dream last night, I was circled by some of my closest friends in an attic.
I traced my finger along the ceiling as I described to them the perfect day within the perfect summer.
We’d all gather wood and vines and tools and build our own room up in the trees. We’d make it strong and sturdy, make it block out all the rain but let in all the sun.
We’d spend everyday building this home, adding to it.
Then the final day of summer, we’d sit in it, and laugh and tell stories, and be more honest than we’ve ever been to each other or anyone. We’d let out all of our sorrows and secrets. And then we’d cry together. And no one would be ashamed.
One by one, we’d climb down the ladder. We’d set light to the vines and dance together under flames and cracking of embers. Stand warm faced and beaming, engulfed in blankets and friendship as we watch it burn and smolder, releasing us from those emotions we’d trapped inside.
Reminding us nothing matters but now.
“I want this with you, my best friends, because that’s what we should be doing. That’s what we should be sharing.”
I want to cry with you
I want to dance with you
I want to watch it burn with you
because I love you.
According to blogspot, this is my most popular poem of “all time”
…”all time” being the last three years.
I’m glad though, because it’s one of my favorites, too.
